TNPSC Group 1 Exam

TNPSC Group1 is the topmost examination conducted by TamilNadu Public Service Commission. Candidates those who are selected in Group1 exam will be recruited for the higher position in the state Government of TamilNadu. Lakhs of aspirants eagerly wait for the release of TNPSC Group1 notification. Every year Lakhs of aspirants appear for TNPSC Group1 examinations and to qualify in exams candidates needs to work very hard to succeed. Education Qualification:

Candidate should have been obtained by passing the required degree course in the order of studies 10th, HSC, degree. Candidates who are in the final year of degree examination may also apply for Group I Preliminary exams.


Candidate should attain the minimum age of 21 and maximum age of 30 years for OC, 35 years for DW, BC, BCM, MBC, SC, SC(A)and ST.

TamilNadu Public Service Commission Group1 has three phases of examination that is prelims, mains and interview or Oral Test. First phase of examination is preliminary examination which contains 200 objective type questions for 300 marks will be conducted for 3 hours of duration. In these 150 questions will be asked from General Studies (Science, History, Geography, Polity, Economics and Current affairs, Indian National Movement, Current Affairs), and 50 Aptitude & Mental Ability questions. Based on the preliminary cutoff marks candidates will be selected for mains examination. Mains Examination is descriptive type of examination which consists of three papers, each papers carry of 300 marks.

The Group1 preliminary exam result will be published like mains examination, only the register number of the candidates those who have scored the certain cutoff marks will be shortlisted and displayed in the TamilNadu Public Service Commission official website.

2. Aptitude and Mental Ability Tests - 50 marks

ii. Mains Examination:
Paper 1: 300 Marks - 3 hours duration
• Modern history of India and Indian culture
• General Aptitude & Mental Ability
• Role and impact of science and technology in the development of India and Tamil Nadu.
Paper 2: 300 Marks - 3 hours duration
• Indian polity and emerging political trends across the world affecting India and Geography of India
• Tamil language, Tamil society ‐ it’s culture and Heritage / English Language
• Administration of Union and States with special reference to Tamil Nadu
Paper 3: 300 Marks - 3 hours duration
• Current events of national and international importance
• Current Economic Trends: Indian economy and Impact of global economy on India
• Socio ‐ Economic Issues in India/ Tamil Nadu

iii. Interview:
• Oral Test - 120 marks
Those who secured the qualifying marks in the mains examination are only eligible for the interview or oral test which will be conducted for 120 marks. Only mains examination and interview marks will be considered for the final selection.
